An Australian driver's license is sufficient. However, be careful of driving conditions in the Outback. These conditions include dirt roads and extreme temperatures, both very high and very low.

Q: Are your vehicles suitable for off-road driving?

Most of our 4WD vehicles come complete with four-wheel drive, high clearance, and off-road tyres. This will allow you to access most of the Outback's rough terrain in relative safety.

Q: What is the minimum age to rent a car with us?

You will need to be over 25 to hire a 4WD. For other cars, you need to be at least 21 years old and hold a license, provisional or full for at least 3 years. Additional charges for drivers under 21 may apply.

Q: Am I allowed to rent a child car seat?

Yes, we do provide child car seat rentals. Please inform us in advance of the type of seat you require at the time of booking.

We hired a 4x4 car for a 3-day camping trip through the outback.
On arrival we were given the option of upgrading to a car with roof-mounted tent, which was a great decision! Everyone at Alice Car Rental was very helpful, and we were given various additional camping equipment free of charge!

Great service. Family business. Responsive to email or calls. Very helpful, we booked a Toyota with roof top tent and a few bits of camping gear as we had some of our stuff. They lent us a few extra things at no extra cost, dont know if normal but it was handy. Free pick up from airport too. Car is a few years old but did the job perfectly. No complaints. Would recommend.

Alice Car Rental in Alice Springs provided us with a really good small car for our 7 day road trip to Uluru and Kings Canyon (sealed roads only). We had booked a small car and were given a free upgrade as the owner said that the Suzuki Baleno was in better nick for such a remote trip. The car was in excellent condition and we had no issues. We also looked after it.
Their rates are unmatched in Alice. Very reasonable. Their paperwork is a bit loose compared to other rentals I've used before in Australia so I took photos of the agreement as well as of the car at the timeof hire, just in case. However, the people were trustworthy and we had no issues.
They also dropped us to the airport, which is part of their service.The people I dealt with are absolutely lovely.
I have no hesitation in recommending them for car rental service in Alice Springs.

We had such a good experience. The airport shuttle worked really smooth and we got a super clean car. Our shuttle driver even gave us some recommendations for our trip. The car itself was in great condition and we had absolutely no issues. On top the price was super fair for three days and way cheaper than the common big chains. Would rent here again!

100% worth it!
It was by far the cheapest option I could find in Hobart. The staff is very friendly and always happy to help with any questions or concerns. Everything with the rental was fine from the beginning to the end. After I returned the car, they even drove me to the airport. If I ever will be in Tasmania again, I will rent a car from this company again.

I rented a car from Alice Car Rental during my visit to Tasmania. The rates were reasonable, and the service was generally good. However, the car wasn’t properly cleaned—visibility through the windows was poor, and I had to clean them myself, which impacted my trip. Additionally, the navigation system had issues, and I received little support in resolving it, wasting valuable time. Cars should be thoroughly cleaned and checked before being rented out to ensure a smoother experience for customers.

Absolutely five star service I would rate at 10 out of 10 if we could! What are awesome owner the Indian Guy. He is always answering your phone calls or finding some way of getting back to you love the one on one service. We absolutely loved the Toyota Hilux Ute that we rented.

You won’t have to pay anything if you are involved in an accident, as long as you are not using the vehicle in an unauthorised way. There are 2 exclusions in the insurance. They include ruptured tyres (wear and tear, and punctures are covered) and underbody, which tend to happen if a vehicle is not driven carefully.
