Alice Car Rental Darwin (ABN 65624110274) is a locally owned Northern Territory car hire operator with depots in Darwin, Alice Springs and Hobart. Alice Car Rental Darwin operates from 89 Winellie Road, Winellie NT 0820, approximately 12 minutes from Darwin International Airport (IATA: DRW), offering car hire in Darwin from $40 per day with a complimentary airport shuttle and 250 km daily allowance.
Unlike larger national chains, our local team provides personal service and genuine knowledge of NT roads and conditions in this part of northern Australia, a region commonly known as the Top End.
Free airport shuttle from Darwin Airport (DRW)
Our complimentary airport shuttle runs directly from Darwin International Airport (DRW) to our depot at 89 Winellie Road, no taxi rank queues, no rideshare surge pricing. Once your flight lands, call us and the shuttle will collect you from the arrivals area within minutes. The transfer takes approximately 12 minutes and is included at no extra cost with every booking.
Car Hire Darwin Rates from $40/day
Are you travelling on a tight budget? No problem! We provide you with the cheapest car rental services in Darwin, without compromising on quality and service. Unlike Hertz, Avis, and Budget, who operate desks inside the Darwin Airport terminal and pass on the airport concession surcharge to you, Alice Car Rental's off-airport model keeps overheads lower, which means your daily rate is lower too. You're not paying for terminal real estate.
Daily mileages allowance
If you wish to travel beyond the city limits of the Top End (a regional term referring to the Northern Territory), then you do not need to worry about the mileage. In addition to our affordable vehicle rental service, you can also benefit from the 250 kilometres of free daily distance that allows you to travel to places like Litchfield National Park, Katherine Gorge (Nitmiluk National Park, known for canoeing and scenic cruises), or Kakadu.
SUVs and Economy Cars Serviced for NT Conditions
Enjoy driving with peace of mind knowing that you are driving a dependable vehicle. We offer a fleet of premium cars, which are serviced and cleaned regularly for your comfort, safety, and convenience. Whether you choose a sedan or an SUV, you will be assured of enjoying a smooth drive in your Darwin journey, with options that include fuel-efficient compact cars, family SUVs, and off-road-ready 4WDs for remote exploration.
WHAT IS THE BOOKING PROCESS TO HIRE A CAR IN DARWIN?
Booking your car rental in Darwin, Northern Territory is simple and convenient. Select your preferred vehicle, we will pick you up at Darwin Airport and enjoy a straightforward process designed to get you on the road quickly.
The Top End climate is divided into two distinct seasons that directly affect how you plan your hire. The dry season (May to October) is peak travel time, roads into Kakadu National Park and Litchfield National Park are fully open, temperatures are comfortable, and demand for rental vehicles is at its highest. The wet season (November to April) brings dramatic thunderstorms and some road closures on unsealed tracks, though sealed highways remain accessible year-round. If you're visiting during the wet season, a 4WD gives you more flexibility when conditions change quickly..
We recommend booking at least 2–3 weeks ahead during the dry season (May–October), when Darwin is busiest.

What insurance is included with your Darwin car rental?
All rentals include standard damage cover for multi-vehicle accidents (covering damage to the rental vehicle, the other vehicle, and third-party property), subject to an excess of up to $5,500 if no excess reduction is purchased.
To reduce your financial exposure, we offer two excess reduction options:
- Partial Cover: Reduces your liability to $500 in the event of an accident.
- Full Cover: Reduces your liability to $0 (you pay nothing in the event of a covered accident).
Note : Insurance does not cover windscreen, tyre, or underbody damage. Smoking in the vehicle also incurs a cleaning charge. We recommend adding Full Cover for off-road or remote travel in the NT.
Enjoy the adventure with our 4wd hire Darwin
Do you also provide 4WD hire?
Yes. We also provide 4WD rentals.
A 4WD car hire is recommended for visiting some of the national park areas surrounding the Northern Territory. Some attractions within the national parks, such as the Wangi Falls in Litchfield and Ubirr Rock in Kakadu, can be visited without a 4WD. However, the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, our most popular 4WD is the vehicle of choice for accessing Jim Jim Falls and Maguk in Kakadu National Park, where unsealed tracks require high ground clearance and four-wheel drive capability.
Choosing a 4WD opens up unsealed tracks into Kakadu's remote zones and Litchfield's gorges, but those drives can easily cover 350–400 km in a day, so check whether your daily mileage allowance will cover your planned route before you set off.
Our 4WD fleet includes the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, one of the most trusted vehicles for Northern Territory outback travel. With high ground clearance, air conditioning, and seating for up to seven, the Prado is well suited to everything from sealed highway driving to the unsealed tracks that lead into Kakadu's remote zones. All 4WDs come with a phone holder for navigation and are serviced regularly before each hire.

International visitors must present their original licence, a valid International Driving Permit if their licence is not in English, and a credit card for the security bond, arriving without the IDP means the rental cannot proceed and any insurance cover is void.
