Are there additional fees to rent a car in Darwin?

We keep our pricing straightforward. There are no airport surcharges or hidden booking fees — the price you see is the price you pay. That said, a few charges can apply depending on how you use the vehicle. Every rental includes 250 km per day. If you drive beyond that, an extra charge of $0.30 per km applies. A bond of $500–$1,500 is held on your card at pickup and released within 10 business days of return. If you don't purchase excess reduction, your liability in the event of an accident can be up to $5,500. You can reduce that to $500 with Partial Cover, or to $0 with Full Cover. A small number of avoidable charges are worth knowing about upfront: replacing a lost key costs $900, and using the wrong fuel type carries a minimum charge of $5,000. Smoking in the vehicle is not permitted and will incur a cleaning and deodorising fee. After-hours returns that haven't been arranged in advance may also attract an additional charge.

Luckily, we provide 4WD hire Darwin for the most adventurous customers. You might need a 4WD but it depends on the exact locations within the national parks you intend to visit. Some popular locations are accessible by sealed road, such as Ubirr Rock in Kakadu and Wangi Falls in Litchfield. However, some locations require a 4WD, such as Jim Jim Falls and Maguk in Kakadu, and the Lost City in Litchfield. Without explicit consent, vehicles must not be driven further east than Cahills Crossing, south of Mataranka, or west of Timber Creek.

What happens if roads or parks are closed due to wet-season flooding?

Some roads and areas become inaccessible during the wet season. Please follow the road closure and travel advice issued by the road and national park authorities.

What's the bond/deposit to rent a car in Darwin?

This is a family car hire business. Super friendly, super customer-focused. We hired a 4WD for a few days to get around Darwin and visit Litchfield National Park. The customer service was excellent and hire costs very competitive.The contract was easily understood (unlike some of the bigger companies) and we were able to call someone in Darwin to ask questions and discuss logistics. Also way more flexible and accommodating for pick up and drop off on weekends and public holidays, including an airport pick up and drop off as part of the service.
Highly recommended, to the point that I have just referred my parents to the Hobart arm of the business for their upcoming trip.
